Tracking Numbers

Tracking numbers are Twilio phone numbers that TrolleyShield provisions and manages for you. Each tracking number forwards calls to your real business phone number while recording and analyzing them.

Provisioning a Number

  1. Go to Numbers in your dashboard
  2. Click Buy Number
  3. Choose your preferences:
    • Area code — match your local area code
    • Type — local or toll-free
  4. Enter the forward-to number — the real phone number that should ring
  5. Click Purchase

The number is instantly provisioned and begins tracking calls.

Managing Numbers

From the Numbers page you can:

  • Edit the forward-to number
  • View call history for a specific number
  • Mark as DNI pool — designate numbers for Dynamic Number Insertion
  • Release a number (removes it from your account)

Source Types

Each tracking number can be tagged with a source type for reporting:

  • Website — track calls from your website (usually via DNI)
  • Google Ads — track calls from paid search campaigns
  • Offline — track calls from print, radio, or other offline media
  • Direct — general tracking number

What Happens on Downgrade

If you downgrade to a tier with fewer included numbers, or cancel your subscription, TrolleyShield will automatically release numbers exceeding the new tier's limit. You'll be notified before this happens.
